More Questions
You probably have lots of questions right now. There are many big decisions you’ll be making in these coming months—and the best place to start is with questions! Please check out our general FAQ, and you can also check out our abortion FAQ here. Finally, here are some links to other helpful sites on the internet.
Here are answers for some other questions you may have…in no particular order:
• I heard you are a Christian organization. What does this mean?
--The volunteers at The Center for Pregnancy Choices have all been saved from their sins and made clean and new by the life, death, and resurrection
of Jesus Christ. The grace we have been given from God has transformed each of our lives. Jesus gives us love for people and the desire to bring help and hope to the world. We want to share the good news of Jesus with everyone…and we’d love to tell you about it too. You can click here to read more.
As a Christian organization, we absolutely do not discriminate against clients on the basis of religion, anymore than we discriminate on the basis of age, sex, income, disability, or other circumstance. You will always be served with care, love, confidentiality, and respect when you come into The Center.
• I’m all alone, with no one to help me through pregnancy or the delivery. What can I do?
--This is a really hard spot to be in. The Center is here to support you throughout your pregnancy--we can help answer your questions or we’ll find someone who can! We also have a library of pregnancy books and DVDs that you can check out or watch with us at The Center. If you have no support for your delivery, we do have doulas (childbirth and labor assistants) available who can be there to help you for the delivery. Please come in and talk with us.
• I don’t understand maternity clothes. What size should I get?
--When you buy your maternity clothes, you should try to get your pre-pregnancy size. The clothes are designed to stretch as you stretch. The Center offers some maternity clothes for expecting mothers.
• I don’t have insurance. Help!
--If you don’t have insurance there may be help available. Medicaid can offer medical coverage to qualifying individuals. The Center offers a pregnancy verification card for positive pregnancy tests. This card is accepted by the Department of Workforce Services, the agency that helps with Medicaid applications.
• There’s so much I don’t know about babies.
--It’s true that there is so much to learn when you have a new baby! You’ve got a great opportunity now—while your baby’s on the way—to start learning and growing in your knowledge of parenting and child care. We want to help you! The Center has a small lending library of pregnancy and child care books, a collection of videos you can come in and watch, and classes covering everything from nutrition to making crafts for your baby! Click here for information about available classes. We also can provide you with referrals to other agencies in Logan that have classes and help available.
• Can you help me with child care?
--The Center doesn’t offer child care, but we can give you some referrals to agencies that can help you out.
• I don’t think I’ll be a good mother. Wouldn’t it be better to have an abortion?
--It is normal to fear becoming a mother for the first time. This a time full of unknowns! You can use this time while you are pregnant to begin learning about parenting, responsibility, and child care. However, if you realize that you truly can’t care for a baby, you should consider the option of adoption. There are countless loving, stable young couples who are longing to raise children, but can’t due to infertility. They are waiting for someone like you—to bless them and your baby with life. Click here for more information on adoption.
• How can I afford a baby?
--Babies do cost money! But here are a couple things to consider: (1) Babies don’t actually need a “Martha Stewart” nursery to be happy and healthy! You can simplify your shopping list—and reduce the amount of money you need to spend—by realizing what you really need and what you don’t. (2) Many people are here to help you! If you get in a real tight spot, there are agencies to help you with child care, food, diapers, insurance, classes, and
sometimes even big things like cribs. Please come into The Center and we can talk about what help is available. Your family and friends may also come alongside to help you.
• I don’t understand breastfeeding, can you help me?
--The Center does offer some breastfeeding assistance. There are also many great local support groups and classes for breastfeeding that we can get you in contact with.
• What is going on with my baby right now, during this week of pregnancy?
--It’s fascinating to discover about all the changes happening to the little one inside of you. Click here to read about it: Pregnancy ~ The First Nine Months.
• But we already don’t have enough food!
--There is help available. We can provide you with a pregnancy verification that you can use to apply to WIC and also to get food stamps. There is a local food pantry that can provide help in a crisis too. Come into The Center for more information.
• What about a job and more training? How can a baby fit in with that?
--Many young women have continued to pursue their dreams, even with an unplanned pregnancy. This baby will make it more difficult, and it may take a little longer, but you can still find work, learn new skills, and work towards achieving your future goals. We can give you some referrals to get you started.
• But I have an addiction I’m dealing with. I can’t even imagine having a baby too!
--Please get help if you are dealing with an addiction. There are several caring and confidential support groups in town that are here to help you with this addiction. We can get you a referral, and we can also help you with the added stress of a new baby coming along.
• I’ve been raped. What can I do?
--If your situation is an emergency, please call 911 and get to the hospital emergency room as soon as possible. You can contact The Center for a free pregnancy test; caring, one-on-one counseling; and referrals for more help.
• I’m so confused and hopeless. What is the meaning of all this?
--When the choices you’ve made in your life have brought you to this place you never expected to be, it can feel completely hopeless. With your dreams in a shambles, dark despair easily sets in. There are many practical things that we can help you with to get your life somewhat back on track. However, the true cause behind your despair is deeper…it can’t be “fixed” by starting a few good habits. Every one of us on earth has made very bad choices—in fact, it’s worse than that, we’ve sinned against the good and holy God who created us and gave us life. Our sin brings complete separation from God, misery, and yes, despair. In the end, it brings death and judgment. Jesus Christ came to earth to complete the greatest rescue operation ever! Please come in and talk with us about how Jesus can set you free from sin, from death, and from despair. God is in the business of taking shattered hearts and messed-up lives, and giving healing, forgiveness, love, and hope. Read some of that story here.
• I’ve got lots more questions…
--We certainly don’t have all the answers, but we’ll do our best to find them for you! Come in and we can talk and investigate answers to your questions together.
